CHARACTER

Name: Cross Blanchard
Canon: Original
Age: 15
History:
Cross was born into one of these magical families along with his twin brother, Crown. However, Cross was a rare case in which he was born with zero magical ability. It was because his older brother had received all of the magic during their birth. Because of this, Cross was horribly neglected by his father who would be training Crown most of the time. Their mother on the other hand seemed to have up and vanished around the time they were three so all they were left with to take care of them was their father and some of the house staff. Since Cross had no magic he was left to go to normal school where Crown would be home schooled.

Since Cross had interactions with both worlds he got a sense of what both were like. The normal world to him seemed pretty average and somewhat boring. It wasn't until he saw some of the technology that Cross actually gained some interest in it. As he continued to experience the normal world noticed that there was a lot of problems that magic could help fix (like disease, crime, war, ect). Cross brought this up to his father, telling him that the magical world should do more to help the people there. His father rebuffed him, telling him the magical world did not care for the squabbles of the non magical.

With the magical world, Cross was enamored by the thoughts of using magic and all of the interesting things it could do. He felt angry towards it though at knowing that the magical world didn’t care about the entirety of the world’s problems. In doing so, Cross wanted to make it so that both the magical world and the normal world co-exist out in the open. He believed if that was possible both worlds could help each other with their problems. But because of how both worlds worked, those without power were often not taken seriously or ever seen. So Cross wanted to become a hero in both worlds so that he could be acknowledged by everyone so he could help everyone. If he could get both worlds to cooperate and exist to one another, he believed he could make a world filled with happiness.

The only flaw was Cross had no magic. So he needed another way to become a hero. It was then Cross turned to the realm of comic book super heroes and took major influence on his fighting style from them. He became thrilled at those who used gadgets, science, and all their physical capabilities. So Cross began to train, having his older brother teach him how to use a sword. In exchange Cross taught his older brother martial arts and acrobatics (which Cross had started to learn on his own for his own hero training.) He knew just using a sword, acrobatics and martial arts wouldn’t be enough. The boy soon started learning how to make a variety of tools and gadgets in order to use them to help him fight.

When Cross had finally gotten all the things he needed to start being a hero, he began his crime fighting spree. Crown, his older brother, wasn’t going to let him go out on his own and decided to come with him. They were going to try and catch a bunch of bank robbers but their first mission did not go over well. It had led to a chase to a construction site where Cross had damaged his right arm so badly in a freak explosion it had needed to be amputated. It was replaced afterwards with a mechanical arm. This did not deter him as he just adjusted his arm for the use of crime fighting. So from then on he continued to do whatever it took to be seen as a hero by both worlds.

However, Crown and Cross were left in the dark about something with the magical world. The worlds can't physically touch one another. When at times they were going to fight crime in the non magical world, Cross was actually pulling them both into it subconsciously. The only reason why Cross could pull both of them was because they were twins and shared a link between each other. Their father had kept Crown oblivious to the fact of the barriers, merely hand waving that the magical world was hidden through a very good illusion. In reality, their father was going to use them to shatter the barrier.

Their father's reasons for this was like most of the other magical families. Non magical people were lower, inferior, and needed to be controlled by magic. But because of the barriers only very skilled magic users could pass through and even than it wouldn't be enough to conquer. So their father devised a plan. If he could somehow have his wife bear twins, he could be sure that the infusion of magic was transferred to only one of the twins. This way, the other child's body would reject magic and be able to nullify it. But also be able to pull both twins back and forth between the worlds subconsciously. He wanted the twin with magic to see all the ugliness of the non-magical world, so for when the time came he could enact his plan.

When the time came for the Hierarchy's cup, if Crown's potential was strong enough to take the seat as king, Crown could gain enormous amounts of power. Also, with Cross's nullifying of magic, their father intended him to be a sacrifice and allow that power to escape from the boy's body. Once Cross was between worlds and he died, the power would be let loose. This way it would collapse the walls dividing the world so that the magical world could invade. All that was needed was for Cross to die. So their father began slipping him ideas of becoming a hero.

The only piece their father needed was to find a good reason for this invasion, which he already had. He would simply lie to Crown (believing that his son would buy this) saying that the non magical people of the other world caused his death. Knowing that Crown's love for Cross was so strong, his father would intend to use that to fuel the invasion and take control of all the non magical folks.

One night though, after one of Cross's hero sprees he came home to find a strange...something in his closet behind a board. Going to inspect he soon found the Window that would lead him into a grander adventure.
Point in canon: Uhh, he's original but I'd say still trying to establish a hero title in his world and still unaware of his magic nerfing capabilities.
Window Location: In his closet behind a board. Tots original.
Universe: Cross's world is split off into two parts. The normal, everyday world, where one gets up and gets ready for the day; and the magical world where just about anything can happen. In the magical world, magic is used inside certain families, as magic only ever appeared in those lineages. Magic users are often defined by their eye colour. It usually shows when the eyes appear to shimmer or shine.

However as time went on, there came to be less and less magical families, because they were reproducing with one another. To make sure their world didn’t die out, they began reproducing with non magical people. This proved to be even more of a problem, since the next generation’s magic would be weaker than the last; those with weaker magic could be told apart by the changing of their eye color. In theory, if this continued, magical children wouldn’t be born at all. To fix this they infused the non-magical parent with lots of magical energy and then a small infusion of the magical parent’s blood. This would ensure that when the couple consummated their marriage, the magical energies would pass into the child. This would allow their magic not to weaken any further.

But, because magic had gotten so weak down family lines, the younger generation couldn't use magic in its raw form. This caused an even bigger problem, because, as time continued their magic would vanish all together if it wasn't used. Their children’s magic could grow stronger so long as it was practiced and used enough; as magic in their world was like a muscle. But for the time being they needed to be able to use something to help them practice. They discovered, that if the potential to use magic in it’s raw form was there, these children could use weapons infused with magic. These weapons would help them draw out their hidden strength and fine tune their capabilities, until they no longer needed their ‘Tuner’ and use magic by itself.

The majority of the magical world doesn't seem to care much for the non-magical world. They prefer not to stick their nose in it. The awful truth about it is, the magical world feels they are superior to those without magic. Even if they do not interfere with the non-magical world, they would prefer to have dominion over it. But because of the barrier between both the worlds, those without sufficient skills can't pass into the non magical world.

The magical and non magical world exist on something of a shifted plain. To understand it fully, picture a coin. Each world represents a different face of the coin. They exist side by side but can never touch each other. At least, those born in the non-magical world cannot touch the other side. Anyone from the magical world can pass through the barrier into the non-magical, whether they have magical abilities or not. Those with enough training in magic can easily step pass the barrier. But those born with no magic at all can pass through the barrier because of their connection to the non magical world. With these cases, however, the person does it subconsciously and can simply pass back and forth between both worlds (but only if they were born in the magical world first.) Retrospectively, how a non magical person from the non magical world can pass through is if a magic user takes them through.

Magical families often treat each other with friendly familiarity or with outright contempt. Since magical potential is an important aspect of the magical world, all families are in competition with each other. Because of this, they usually home school their children. This way when the time comes, the person's magic isn't known to anyone but the family themselves. The reason why all the families compete with one another is so they can win the 'Hierarchy's Cup.' What this is, is ascending to the highest point of power in the magical world. To become the king and queen.

The king and queen who rule the magical world are those who win the Hierarchy's cup. When the King and Queen both die, a tournament is held (the Hierarchy's cup.) Each magical family puts up one member of their household from the ages of fifteen to twenty. They than battle in a tournament to see who has the strongest magical potential. Males and females have their own separate tournaments to compete in. The winner of the male's tournament becomes the king and the winner of the female tournament becomes queen. Matches are won by either killing your opponent or having them forfeit. When the King and Queen are decided, the families of the winners are the ruling faction in the magical world. The only way to hold power in the magical world is to continually produce children with the strongest potential and win the cup. The reason why the Hierarchy's cup has not been banned yet is because they do not wish to have weak rulers.

The magical world, in terms of architecture, takes after 18th century Victorian buildings. Everything is elaborate and beautiful in their definitions. Even simple shops have luxurious designs. This is to emulate how superior the magical world feels, as everything has grandeur, where the non magical world doesn't.

The capital of the Magical world is Apollos, where the Hierarchy's cup and castle is held.

The non-magical world is what Earth would be like it's imagined to be in 30 years from now. Technology has advanced to the point that limbs can be replaced with mechanical prosthetic that function, if not better, to regular limbs. Computers can even be small enough to fit into blue tooth like objects and a tinted glass screen can be made into a visor to display information. Hover technology is available but extremely hard to get a hold of since it's so expensive.

Other than the large advances in technology, the non magical world is like that of earth in the early twenty first century on how it functions: in terms of politics, economics, law, and so on.

Abilities: Cross has no magical abilities to note of because of his birth and his older brother taking all of the magic shared between them.

Unknown to Cross however, he is especially resilient to magic. This is because of his birth. Since his brother had taken all of the magic during their birth, Cross was given a strong magical resistance. This doesn't mean he's invincible to magic but it will deal less damage to him than it would for someone who doesn't have it. So, for example, someone wanted to set his arm on fire and cause third degree burns with magic, his resistance lessens the damage to a first degree burn. But this is only if it's magic. If it's through a different means than he's going to burn like any other human.

Because he is a normal human, Cross can be injured like one. So he has trained himself to preform difficult acrobatics and has learned a variety of martial arts. A form of martial art he prefers is something similar to chi blocking in Korra. He attempts to hit pressure points in a person's body to temporarily paralyze them. He's trained in the use of martial weapons, like swords and knives and has pin point accuracy with throwing knives.

He's intelligent enough to create a variety of gadgets he uses and even outfitting his mechanical arm with different capabilities (like shoot grappling hooks.) He managed to even outfit the blue tooth like computers to gather statistics.

Cross is capable of driving vehicles with fair amount of control and coordination. Though for his age knowing how to drive is odd. It's probably from all the vehicles he's hijacked during crime fighting.
Possessions:
-A sword. Just a regular sword.
-Throwing knives. Normal.
-Utility belt. To keep all his gadgets and such in.
-Smoke bombs. Releases a cloud of smoke.
-Flash grenades. They explode releasing a giant flash of light.
-Bombs. They explode and cause damage.
-Pepper spray.
- Tasers.
-Mini blow torch
-Lock picks.
-A small tool kit. Used to repair his visor or arm.
-Visor. Now this requires explaining. It is a blue tooth like device that Cross has rigged to gather statistics; these would include, on a person, heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen intake, movement speed. In other cases it allows him to scan technology that is not beyond it's comprehension (as in it's not something much newer or foreign) and give Cross details on it. It even calculates angles and equations on where he would need to throw knives or launch his grappling hook. It functions as a computer basically but with a higher rate of processing and capability. It is capabile of learning more complicated forms of technology if the right programs and data is put into it. So lets say, Cross wanted to figure out how those mechs work in Korra. Since it is a foreign technology Cross would have to find the plans for them and make his visor read the details and then it would store the information. All information is displayed on a tinted glass that goes over his eyes, but can still be seen through.
-His mechanical arm. Since he lost his right arm while fighting crime, he gained this spiffy mechanical one. It functions just as a regular arm would, except metal. Plus, Cross has added some modifications to it. Twisting the cuff on the arm to 90 degrees opens a hole in his palm, which a grappling hook is stored. When he points his arm and hand up in a certain way he presses a button on the back of his hand to fire the grapple. He can use this to swing or draw him closer to something, as the cord can recoil. If the cuff is turned another 90 degrees (or just 180 degrees from the start) blades will come out of the finger tips.
-His Armor. It’s light enough to allow him to move swiftly but strong enough that it can withstand bullets. It is capable of wearing down and falling apart though if maintenance isn’t kept on it.
-Helmet. It functions the same as the visor, except as a helmet. Cross usually uses it if he can get his hands on a motorcycle.
Personality: Cross is extremely hyperactive. Anytime there is danger or adventure to be had, Cross will jump right into it without a second thought. Cross is not so bright when it comes to love and crushes, as they will often go over his head; this could also be said with innuendos and sexual jokes. It takes a lot for him to notice someone has feelings for him, which is bluntly blurting it out. Cross is perceptive of how people are feeling (whether sad or happy); it’s just love that evades him. Because of his empathetic nature, Cross is very compassionate to those weaker than him or hurting. He will drop everything he’s doing just to comfort someone in need, even if he does not know them.

Cross can be serious, if only when it comes to fighting. He's very protective of his friends and his older brother. But he does have a tendency to break things on accident out of his own clueless nature. Cross is an idealist, believing if someone is given the chance for forgiveness, they could be a good person. So, he'll fight an enemy but only to try and knock some sense into them throughout the battle. His idealism though goes a bit far, as he wishes to make a world where there is no fighting and everyone can get along happily.

Due to his idealism, Cross is also wants to be hero. He took major influence from many superhero comics and movies, as well as heroes from literature. He strives to be the heroic figure in a story in real life. Cross is very brave, as he’s willing to take on the dangers of crime fighting. Even taking on potentially deadly scenarios if it leads to protecting others.

Cross is known to show some depressive streaks. Being one in a few without any magical gifts, he often feels rather weak and frail compared to those who have magic. He finds himself constantly wishing to be special in some other way than a mutilated arm. This stems from his wish to be more like his brother and become more effective with combat. He has a firm belief that magic should only be used to help people. This can lead to one of his nasty qualities. He will often get very upset or angry with a person if they didn’t use their power to help others. This is directly influenced by his how his own world runs, as magic is kept within magical families. It can lead him to judge a person very harshly before knowing all the facts of why they wouldn’t use their power to help people.

Cross is also extremely envious of those with powers. As said above, he would often scold people or become very harsh if they didn’t use it to help people. His reasoning behind it all is, because he often feels powerless to affect circumstances. So if someone who has the power to do so, they should do it. Even though he’s trained in many areas to compensate for the lack of magic, he finds himself severely lacking compared to those who could just magic everything away. But this also motivates him. He wants to prove that even if someone who has no innate magical ability can still help the world.

Cross is a lot more cunning and intelligent than one may think when they first meet him. Sure, he is naive and childish, but he is very resourceful when it comes to fighting. He uses whatever he can in the battle field. What he lacks in magic, he makes up in his use of the environment he's given. However, if he's in a place with nothing he can use (for example, a big empty stadium with benches and no cover) he can do little to manipulate a situation in his favor. In short, Cross prefers more stealth oriented combat to overcome his lack of powers. His intelligence also does stem outside of battle. He is capable of creating highly advanced devices that he uses to fight with. With his gadget finesse, he was capable to rig his mechanical arm with a grappling hook and claws that he can use if ever it was necessary.

Cross is also very stubborn when it comes to his beliefs. When someone points out the flaws in them, he will become very defensive. When this happens he accuses those merely trying to help of being extremely pessimistic or too lazy to try and figure out a different way to approach a situation. The reason he is so stubborn is because his beliefs are the only things he feels like he has control over. So when someone comes in trying to make him change them, he feels the loss of that power.

Because of Cross’s want to be special in some way he takes pride in having a prosthetic arm. Even if some would consider it a handicap, Cross considers it one of his defining traits that make him special in some way, even though he’d prefer magic instead.

In the dark of night a young teenager was still out and about. Sure, many could say the same thing about all teenagers. Going out, having fun, doing whatever they felt like. Well, that as partially true in this kid's case. But he wasn't out to have fun. He was out to change things. As he moved across the building tops he heard a scream from below. Turning his head quickly, he tapped the side of his head and a blue screen lit up in front of his eyes. It scanned below to pick up the elevated heart rates of four individuals. Strike that, three people moving in on one person. This didn't look good. Shooting his grappling hook, he swung down to catch a better look. Yup, these three were definitely planning on mugging that lady. Well, Cross wasn't going to be having any of that.

Leaping down in front of the woman, the boy faced the larger strangers. A frown visible on his face. "Look, I don't know what you think you're doing, but you shouldn't be mugging people. That's not gonna help anybody! So why don't we talk about this?" His voice was clear and to the point. But these guys just laughed as they moved in. Guess it looked like he would have to do it the hard way. One dived at him and Cross stepped to the side. Before the man could recover, Cross had grabbed his arm and already swung him into one of his team mates, knocking the other over in the process. The last guy standing glared, his expression becoming enraged as he lunged at Cross. Pulling a taser out from his utility belt, the boy pointed it out front and pressed the button. There was a yell and the man crumpled over.

Smiling, Cross turned to the woman placing his hands on his sides. "You're safe now ma'am! Go on! Get going. I'm sure you've got places to be," Cross happily told her. She looked confused but soon left. With these three guys out cold Cross just tied them up and called the police before leaving.

He did this stuff every night, as much as he could. Cross wanted to help people, everyone in fact. That was his goal, his dream. But even so, part of him knew it wasn't just a selfless act. He wanted recognition from others. So he did this, because without magic, he needed another way for people to see him as special.

Sitting on a roof top above he smiled ruefully. "Maybe...maybe I'm never gonna be a great hero," his words slipping sadly from his mouth. But in a moment of clarity he hit his face. This was no time to get depressed! He needed to remain positive! After all, bringing two worlds together was never easy. "Right, I can't give up now! I gotta keep at it!" .
Plans: Well in general I don't want to give him magic. Maybe if someone from FMA comes in, possibly allow him to learn alchemy (Cause technically it's science.) Other than that I don't have anything in mind.
Notes:

DÆMON

Name: Lampion (Or just Lamp)
Sex: Male, I hope this is all right. I just don't see him having a female one for some reason. If it is a problem I will change it.
Form: Black foot ferret
Additional notes: Since this is like his soul animal, I think the further it moved from him, the more it could extend the range of Cross's magical blocking ability. But since it'll hurt a lot if they move away from each other I doubt this will be used much.
Why this form: I took a quiz just to see what it would turn out to be. I had a ferret in mind and I got one. They described it as "Your daemon is curious, sly, cunning, agile, playful, adventurous, intelligent, witty and affectionate. Your daemon serves as your friend and partner in crime. The ferret manipulates situations to his or her advantage but can be very courageous when the need arises." It almost reflects Cross's personality perfectly, so why not?
