Is it wrong to start feeling like maybe after we find a way home that you might not want to leave after all? [There's a small pause before he awkwardly looks off to the side.]
It's just-[there's a sigh.] I dunno. I've been here for a whole year and yeah-there are things I wish I never had experienced while being here.
[He's quick to add:]
But, other things have been great too. Maybe it's about taking the bad with the good. I just-I dunno. The longer I'm here the less I want to go back home.
[The way Cross sounds his tone just seems slightly desperate. Not wanting to leave but at the same time wanting to be free of the worse stuff. He kind of has to laugh a bit at that. Wow, he kind of sounds like a downer doesn't he? Okay happy things now. He'll turn his conflicted expression into a half smile.]
Maybe it's just cause I don't want to lose the friends I've made here. After all, you guys are pretty awesome. Like a nine out of ten on the awesome scale.
( Introspection and dream stuff. )
that's when the dream ends. There's a sharp intake of breath as he sits up in his bed, clutching his head with his hand. That was right...his birthday was going to be in a little over a week. His first birthday without his brother. Without that little tradition they would do after the big main party for specifically Crown. The one where Crown would have made a whole new cake, significantly smaller and only enough for two to Cross's room. They would light the little candles Crown salvaged from the bigger, more extravagant cake and make a wish together on them.
It was truly the only thing he ever looked forward to on his birthday, because of how excluded he felt from the big party. Now, that moment of genuine happiness on his birthday would be stolen away from him because of Luceti. He curls up in his bed for awhile before he decides to go on a walk.
Awhile later, when he's in the square up in a tree he looks down at his journal. There's a moment of thought before he clicks on the voice feed.
. His expression would no doubt show cracks in the happy mask that he'd normally put on, but, he could still hide his tone enough. Any passerbyer though would notice a somber looking expression on his face if they took notice of him in the tree.]
Lots of birthdays happening this month, huh? Everywhere you look someone's got a birthday coming up.
Anyways, I was kind of curious. What do you do special for your birthday? Doesn't matter when it is, but, I mean, what do you really think makes your birthday truly special to you?
[When he's posted his message, he shuts his journal.]
On the Friday, Cross is dropped back off in the village fountain. Great, a bath in public and a cold one too. Jeez, maybe he was paying for all the times he made fun of the Malnosso. But, no time like the present after all. After going to the clothing store Cross is just going to head to his apartment. He needs to do some maintenance on his arm anyways.
Thaaaaaaat's when he finds out what they've done in the middle of his work. As he's putting a screw in, his nose becomes irritable to the point he feels like he's needs to sneeze. He has no time to cover his mouth as he lets a sneeze out right onto his mechanical arm. And when that happens...
His mechanical arm is covered in a puff of smoke...and has turned into a very large piece of hard candy. For a few minutes Cross just stares at it incoherently. Then there's nonsensical babbling, and lastly theirs a loud horrified scream.
OH GOD HIS ARM, HIS BEAUTIFUL ARM! HE WORKED SO HARD AND NOW ALL HIS WORK HAS BEEN TURNED TO CANDY! THOSE BASTARDS, THEY WERE GOING TO PAY FOR THIS.
But, for now he'll be leaving his apartment to look for anyone who can cure this. Because when there's a will there's a way.
Sadly, this was probably the worst idea because he begins have sneezing fits, turning any nearby object into candy.
When it becomes too much of a problem he goes on video.]
Okay, those jerks have just crossed the line! SERIOUSLY, LOOK AT WHAT THEY'VE DONE!
[And he holds up the same arm that was turned to hard candy.]
My beautiful arm that I was working so hard on is now FOOD! FOOOD! THIS IS A CRIME AGAINST NATURE-NO HUMANITY! THEY'RE GONNA PAY FOR THIS, PAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!
[And after his temper....]
Anyone know how I can treat this shift so I can gives the Molasses a beat down!?
[Forget that stupid barrier, he'll find a way around it!]
(ooc: So, basically anytime Cross sneezes on something it becomes food. Of course this is only temporary. More details here. )
[Cross breathes deeply for a moment. A hollow smirk coming on his face.]
So, that was what a war was like, huh? And people here have gone through this stuff before. Man can't even imagine doing that all the time or how any of you can deal with it. Going to war and killing people I mean.
[He can only let out a small laugh at that.]
Guess I'm just stupid. Really stupid.
[And he just shuts off his book. Because even with seeing all that he doesn't think he could even bring himself to committing those acts as easily as others did.]
[Later when he can finally feel his legs again, Cross has gone into the village deciding he can't just hole up in his apartment. For whoever he knows he's gotta at least try and look like he can move past what he saw and what he dealt with.
He decides to head to Seventh Heaven getting food in his stomach was something he needed to do.
After that he's going to the library, this time around he's made himself another book fort. Maybe hiding in it could make the memories of war go away.
Lastly, he's gone the bar. Why? Well in his book fort rummaging he read that alcohol can help with this kind of stuff and while he may be a minor maybe it won't matter here. ]
And...when seeing someone become uncomfortable, he had knot grow in his stomach. What if by asking those questions he just made people not want to see him or talk to him anymore. What if by staying around and being visible just reminded them of what he asked and said? He couldn't bear the thought of being alone here or not being talked to. He had enough of it back home. He was sick with that fear. Of one day just not being seen anymore by others and being left to his own devices.
So if it meant that he had to fall off the radar for awhile he would. So he took a mission.
When he was finally back, bruised and battered, he had decided to read up on what he had asked this time round.
He heads to the library, pulling books out about dating and romance and just sits there for hours trying to comprehend it all.
After that, he's going on a video talk. Because, now he's getting to another issue. Fighting. After that mission he can see he needs to get better here. While it was only a combat testing one he was tested to the full limits of his current strength. And having been thrown around by holographic opponents stronger than him just showed he had a lot to learn. He needed to show his skill, to be the best he could. The burning desire to just show someone without magic could still be just as strong, powerful, and important welled within him. He didn't want to take a backseat if he ever was brought in on one of those drafts he heard and read about.
After all...if he could show his merit in places like those people would notice him.]
Uh, hey everyone. It's Cross. For those who know me, I'm uh, back now! For those who don't, well nice to meet ya anyways.
[He gives a small wave and tries to seem as cheerful as possible, even with a giant bruise on the side of his face.]
So, uh, how's everyone been? [But, he's not going to beat around the bush, he'll get right to it.]
Look I uh, need to ask something. Is there anyone who's really sufficent in combat? Like, top notch, high tier, could kick a whole lot of butt without trying to kind of combat level?
[Cross nervously rubs the back of his head and while he wants to pride himself in his abilities and show off as much as he can...he knows he pretty much sucks.]
I want to get better at fighting back. I kind of know how to use a sword and I've been trained in martial arts, I can even throws knives when I need to. But I'm nowhere near good yet. So, if there's anyone out there who's willing to help I can uh buy you something with mission points?
[He lets out a deep sigh as he lowers his head.]
Just think about it, okay?
(ooc: The action is in the library if anyone wants to question why he's reading books on dating and the like)
His only brother is his best friend. Literally, without Crown in his life, Cross would have been a big puddle of emo. They are as close as brothers can be since they grew up together being the only ones that really loved one another. Cross idealizes his brother as being the kind of person everyone would want to be and look up to. So, he's very jealous but very awestruck by his brother, Crown. ( The New, Improved Character Survey of Doom )
[Cross has been here for two months and as much as he's trying to keep himself from thinking it, it's already weaseled inside his brain like a bug and decided to put those thoughts there. He's been pretty lonely since first getting here and while he's been making a handful of friends it doesn't really help with not having his brother here. His brother was his only real best friend back home and from what he's been getting, people have friends and family from home in Luceti.
Everybody's got somebody right? So why is it that he just feels like crap?
So instead of stewing in his bad emotions he decides to put up a written entry, but because he doesn't want people to worry about him, he's doing it anonymously.]
Hey, I've been wondering something. How does everyone feel about living here? I mean, does anyone ever get homesick for their own world? Or is everyone okay with being here since they've got somebody? But if you don't, do you ever wish you had that one person that means the most to you to be here? But, is wanting that a terrible thing?
[He finishes writing it and stares for a moment. Yeah...maybe he'll leave it and he just shuts the book.]
[So, Cross is going to try and deal with his depression like a grown up. By hanging upside down in a tree for part of the day and letting the blood rush to his head.
When he's become dizzy and gets a headache, he'll go to the smithy and will be working on making more throwing knives. He's making more than he should, granted he's probably got too many now. So any of the finished knives are starting to pile up on a table nearby. When that gets boring, he's going to try and work on one of his spare mechanical arms. He's attempting to add a laser like Rin suggested. It's not working out so well.
When that's done he's going by the convenience store to pick up dinner for the night.
When all that's said and done, he's hanging out in the library pulling out some fantasy books and holing up in a corner with a book fort he made. He's totally mature, okay? He'll just be reading the whole time.
Any other time he can be found walking about Luceti.]
So, he's come on the journal looking a bit irrate.]
Hey, does anyone have anything to do? Do you need something fixed? I'll settle for whatever. There's also jobs here, right? Anyone need workers? Come on, there's gotta be something to do. I'm starting to run out of things to do. I can build things too. Let me know soon, okay? My name's Cross and I'm avaliable anytime.
[After that, Cross can be seen going around town. He's pestering anyone he comes across about jobs or tasks they need done. When it doesn't seem like anyone is answering him, Cross is going to the blacksmith's and is just starting to build small wind up toys. Why? Well, what else is he going to do? Plus, with Christmas coming up kids might want a presents.]
...Okay, yeah he knew how gravity worked like that but he didn't think the ground would disappear underneath him.
So, here he is, falling from the sky in utter shock. Thankfully the fall is just as high as the building was...but that's still not a comforting thought when you could break both your legs. Cross goes to reach for his utility belt to get something out of it when he realizes that it's not there. Great, perfect.
But, he had his mechanical right arm and that's all he needed. Twisting the cuff on it in a 360 turn, a hole opens in his palm which reveals a grappling hook. Pointing it towards a tree, he presses a button on the back of the hand and it launches out. As the hook tightens and locks onto the tree, Cross grabs cable that comes out from his as he swings around the tree.
As he comes towards the ground, he unhooks the grapple and tumbles across the ground safely, his journal falling open in the process and turning the video function on.]
Owwww...okay, really didn't need that strain on my arm falling from that height.
[Pushing himself up as he rotates his right arm to relieve it of it's pain, he looks around slowly unsure of his surroundings.]
Okaaaaaaaaay...definitely doesn't look like home.
[But he looks down, suddenly realizing he's not wearing his clothes.]
What the-?! Hey, what's the big idea?! Where's my stuff!?
[Taking another look around he see's a village nearby. Okay, weird. Definitely weird. Like weirder then when Uncle Kyle got himself stuck in that mirror. Well, there was only one way to find out what was going on. Gathering intel from that village.]
So, the shadow will be a tall, willowy, and snow pale figure, that looks contorted and broken as it's tightly wound and bound in black chains. The shadow's expression will be twisted into some of rage and jealousy. The shadow will be riddled with cuts that will ooze green blood. His hands will be long, clawed hands, one hand being made of flesh and green veins being extremely prominent on it, the other hand will be mechanical but grotesquely so as it appears to bleed as well, with bone and veins jutting out of it. There are also blinders on the side of his head to block anything from either side of his vision. Around him a ring of paper people dancing around him. On his head is a black crown.
In this dream Layer, we're going to delve deeper into Cross's personality. You know that happy go lucky air he puts on a lot? Well, it's apart of him but he also uses it to hide a bunch of flaws about himself.
In this dream, Cross is going to look to be a child and he's going to be watching people with theater masks preforming magic of any kind. He'll look amazed at first but his amazement will turn to a look of envy.
- Those who enter his dream will find themselves wearing a theatre mask, but are capable of removing it. But while you're wearing it Cross doesn't seem to notice you
-If you remove the mask however, Cross does notice you. He'll approach you and ask that you show him something special. When and if you do he'll comment on how amazing it was, even if it's not so spectacular. He'll go on to say he wishes he could be special. This is to show that Cross has a very low opinion of his abilities. Even if he acts like he's good at what he does outwards, inside he feels like he's nothing special. If tried and cheered up he'll just continually say repeat the same thing "But I'm nothing special, everyone else is, but me."
-If he's not interacted with and your theatre mask is still on, the dream continues to show another boy who looks like him and is moving away from him and back turned. As the other boy moves away, Cross will feebly try to catch up, but the other boy will continue walking, aging into an adult as the child Cross is stuck behind running after the other boy. It's to show how much he idealizes his brother and all the factors that his brother was given and born with and how he wished he could be more than what he is.
Themes: Betterment, Inferiority, envy.
Repeating dream Ideal Dream
In this dream, it'll be a meadow. There will be people of every kind here, all with smiles on there faces, that'll be the only thing they have on their faces though. They won't have eyes or noses just grins . They'll all be in a circle standing around Cross praising him as a hero as he stands on a pedestal.
-This is Cross's ideal world. Where everyone is at peace and happy, while he's being praised.
-If Cross is pulled off the pedastal though, things in this dream get dark fast. The world around it crumbles as the once happy faces soon turn to sneers or mocking grins. They'll begin to berate Cross at this point and Cross is gonna have a break down. Try as the other person might to try and cheer Cross up, he'll just ignore it. It's to show that even one person can't lift him out of his want for attention as he needs majority to make himself feel better about himself.
-If violence occurs in this dream, Cross instantly begins acting like a corny hero, with all the one liners and heroic lines to go with it. Regardless to say, he'll start beating you up. And since it's a dream he's going to be a lot stronger than a normal human. Your person won't die though. Because, Cross will only aim to temporarily paralyze you and stuff. If you're defeated this dream ends. It's to show his ideal image of a hero and how hard he is trying to emulate it in reality.
-If nothing is done, the dream just plays out with Cross being adored and it ends.
Theme: Unrealistic Hope, Heroics, idealism, Inferiority, Self worth, attention
Repeat Parental Issues
This dream goes into Cross's lack of parental guidance in his life.
It will show bitty Cross again, but he will constantly pulling on the coat tails of a very tall man who's back is to him. The more he tugs the more the man appears to move further away, even if Cross is holding on. Off to the side in this dream though is a figure of a woman, but her face has no features and she has no hair. She's just dressed and pointed away from Cross.
-Attempting to interact with the faceless mother will garner no reaction. It's to show that he has no clue how a mother is supposed to act because he never had one in his life.
-If the father is interacted, he'll tug his coat tails away and just leave Cross and the other person in the darkness.
-If Cross is interacted (whether or not the father left) with he'll ask why his father doesn't want to talk to him. No matter what happens, it'll just end with Cross in tears saying one day he'll have his father's love, he just needs to be important first. It shows where Cross's obsession with being a hero and power first came from. It was to earn recognition and so he could finally matter.
-If the person does nothing and just observes, it'll fade away as the feeble looking child tries harder to get his father's attention.
Theme: Neglect, recognition, lack of parental guidance, love.
Nothing scary or horrible will happen in this dream. Here Cross, is just lying on the beach and he's lying next to two people with theatre masks. Those who drop into the dream will fill the space of one of the people with theater masks. They are capable of removing them like in dream 1. It's just very peaceful here, but Cross will say how he's so happy to have friends like them.
This dream shows how Cross wants to become friends with people and how very little he has because of his heroing in his own world.
Themes: peace, happiness, friendship, bonds.
This dream is totally not referencing this, nope, not at all -shot full of holes-
Sayaka - She's merging in with his Ideal Dream.
Ven - He's dropping in on the theater mask dream.

Answer the following questions with "yes" or "no", as well as additional information if desired.
Backtagging: Go ahead, just message me if you do. I may not check as often as I should.
Threadhopping: Sureee? I really don't know what that means but it's whatever.
Fourthwalling: If it's subtle enough, I'm okay with it, but if you're going to kick it down, please no.
Offensive subjects (elaborate): Fine with just about anything. Unless it's rape or an extremely graphic murder I'd rather not play that.
This is the permissions list for IC (in-character), activity.
Answer the following questions with "yes" or "no", as well as additional information if desired. With IC permissions, it's a good idea to elaborate on what other players can expect from your character if they choose to do any of the following:
Hugging this character: Go ahead, he doesn't mind affection. He'll even give people hugs if he feels they need it or if they're friends...it doesn't take much though.
Kissing this character: Go ahead? He's going to be completely oblivious to what you're doing though. He has no freaking clue about romance.
Flirting with this character: It'll go over his head, so he'll smile stupidly at you.
Fighting with this character: Training is good, real fights are good. He will never try and kill someone though, he'll always be trying to disarm them and disable them temporarily.
Injuring this character (include limits and severity): So long as you don't smash him into a disfigured, bloody mess, anything's cool.
Killing this character: Permission first, if it's a permanent death kind of thing, than no. If temporary, please come talk.
Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: His heart and mind is an open book, but his insecurities he keeps buried but are easy to find if you're good at that stuff.
Cross is intelligent, even if he doesn't act like it. He will use anything and everything he gets his hands on to fight back. He's stealthy and quick and is good at taking opponents down who are even bigger than him. But he'll never kill.

Note; if more questions come to mind I will message everyone back to have them check.
Cross is naturally empathetic. He is capable of telling what others are feeling and how they are feeling. It's not a magical skill, he's just good at perceiving it. So here are a couple of a questions.
Are you okay with Cross figuring out if your character is lying to him about what they're feeling at the moment? (Ex. they're putting on a happy face, when they're very sad.):
Would you want to plot in the future with Cross meddling into your business and trying to help you with your problems? It can go any way:
Also Cross has an in born ability (which he has no clue about) of magical resistance. In short, magic used on him is less effective (including healing, damage, protection). His body negates 2/3 of magic when used. But since lots of people's abilities and powers are from different worlds, I'm asking permission here if whether or not your magic is going to be effective against him or not. It will not be a god moddy ability, mainly for one of the facts that overall, he's an average teenager, most of his abilities come from technology and his own body but even than it could be compared to what Robin from batman has in his utility belt. Strictly speaking, however, this only really applies to magic and magic like abilities, so if your characters have meta abilities (superman's laser eyes) they will affect him at 100%.
How effective do will your character's magic be on him? (example, 2/3's, 50%, full powered)

World Description:Cross's world on the surface is very average in the sense that everyday life consists of getting up and going to work or school. But beneath the surface lies more wonder and magic than one would expect. His family was a part of the magical world. In his world people are born to magical bloodlines. In some cases someone born may only have the potentially currently to use weapons imbued with magical force, while others are capable going passed that and invoking the phenomenon themselves. Magic however works like a muscle in his world. If someone is born with only able to wield magical weapons with enough training they in time can become capable of using magic themselves. But overtime magical families began to dwindle because there weren’t enough of them to keep the bloodlines going; they had to turn to non-magical beings to continue their line. They found however when they did this the magical line would grow progressively weaker in their children to the point some families couldn’t produce any magical children at all.
They began studying into this to see if there was a way to combat the dying out of magic. In time they managed to find the answer. If a non-magical person was married to one who could use magic, the non-magical person would need to be absorb copious amounts of the mystical force and be infused a small amount of blood from the magical being they would marry; this would not however give the non-magical person the capability to use magic as it’s only given to them so it can pass on into the child. By doing this magical children were more likely to be born into the family but on occasion a child with no magical capabilities would be born.
In Cross’s world the magical part of it hides from the rest of the world. Their reasoning being that non-magical people in the past have been known to use any sort of power stronger than them and cause devastating harm with it. So, instead of trying to help them the magical world stays hidden and keeps to itself. They also don’t take much concern with normal people affairs unless it directly affects them.
The magical world also has it's set of problems. The government of this world is a hierarchy. Before, there use to be a line of kings and queens who had the strongest magic. But, because of the introduction of non magical people marrying magical ones, the royal family's heirs also started getting weaker potential. So, not wanting to have weak rulers, the council that helped the royal family run the world voted upon a tournament. It would be called the Hierarchy's cup. Winning the tournament meant that you had the strongest magic and therefore would take to the throne. All families could compete and would fight in it in order to take control of the world.
In the non magical half of the world, technology is the equivalent of what it would be in 30 years or so. Limbs are capable of being replaced with mechanical ones that function just as well as a normal one would (like if an arm was lost and replaced with a mechanical one, it will function just like a regular one.) Computers can even be small enough to be fit into blue tooth like objects and a tinted glass screen can be made into a visor to display information.
Warfare technology has also increased. Technology that could be comparable to Iron man's suit is now standard issue in the military. There are huge armada's of these soldiers in suits that are capable of flight and firing lasers. They are difficult obtain though since they're just military issued.
Society is still the same as it would be right now in 2012, with politics and the like. Kids still go to school, adults still work, people have families. All of what you would expect in normal day life.
The government is a democracy, depending on the country. Since Cross lives in considered North America, it's fairly certain that they elect president's or prime minister's by voting.
The magical and non magical world exist on something of a shifted plain. To understand it fully, picture a coin. Each world represents a different face of the coin. They exist side by side but can never touch each other. At least, those born in the non-magical world cannot touch the other side. Anyone from the magical world can pass through the barrier into the non-magical, whether they have magical abilities or not. Those with enough training in magic can easily step pass the barrier. But those born with no magic at all can pass through the barrier because of their connection to the non magical world, simply by not having magic. With these cases, however, the person does it subconsciously and can simply pass back and forth between both worlds (but only if they were born in the magical world first and if they know of the other side.) Retrospectively, how a non magical person from the non magical world can pass through is if a magic user takes them through.
If the barrier was broken, the worlds would collide together and merge together. To compensate for another land becoming part of another, the world would reshape itself to fit both worlds together in an act of self preservation.
Character Background: Cross was born into one of these magical families along with his twin brother, Crown. However, Cross was a rare case in which he was born with zero magical ability because his older brother had received all of the magic put into their non-magical mother. Because of this Cross was horribly neglected by his father who would be training Crown most of the time in order to win the Hierarchy's cup. Their mother on the other hand seemed to have up and vanished around the time they were three so all they were left with to take care of them was their father and some of the house staff. Since Cross had no magic his father sent him to a non magical school, while Crown would be trained at home.
Since Cross had interactions with both worlds he got a sense of what both were like. The normal world to him seemed amazing with the people being able to come up with non magical innovations to solve their problems. He noticed overtime that there was a lot of problems in the normal world that magic could help fix (like disease, crime, war, ect). Cross brought this up to his father and saying that the magical world should do more to help people on the other side as well. His father rebuffed him, telling him to stop wasting time since it didn't matter.
With the magical world Cross was enamored by the thoughts of using magic and all of the interesting and neat things it could do. He started to feel angry towards it when he found out that the magical world didn’t care about the entirety of the world’s problems. In doing so Cross wanted to make it so that both the magical world and the normal world co-exist out in the open. He wanted both worlds to help each other with their problems and to work together for a better future. But, because of how both worlds worked those without power were often not taken seriously or ever seen.
In time Cross wanted to become a hero in his world so that he could be acknowledged by everyone so he could help everyone. This was all because in stories he read and heard lands and countries managed to unite under one person who brought them together. If he could get both worlds to cooperate and exist to one another he believed he could make a world filled with happiness.
Cross was at horrible disadvantage though. He had no magic and without it he found himself with a problem. How could he make himself stand out in both worlds? Well, the answer came to him when he had walked into a comic book store.
Cross turned to the realm of comic book super heroes and took major influence on his fighting style from heroes who used gadgets, science, and all their physical capabilities. So Cross began to train having his older brother teach him how to use a sword. In exchange Cross taught his older brother martial arts and acrobatics (which Cross had started to learn on his own during after school activities and summer vacations for his own hero training.) However, he knew just using a sword, acrobatics and martial arts wouldn’t be enough.
He began to explore the field of science. Taking a more active role in school, Cross began to force himself to excel in his classes. With his want to be a hero he would try to become smarter so he could create the things he would need to fight. As time went on, he managed to excel in the technological aspects of school. It only got him so far though since School didn't necessarily teach him how to hack into computers or build explosives. In his spare time he'd pull up things on the internet to create the gadgets he would need.
When Cross had finally gotten all the things he needed to start his vigilante career he began to fight crime in the non magical world. Crown wasn’t going to let him go out on his own and decided to come with him. They were going to try and catch a bunch of bank robbers but their first mission did not go over well. It had led to a chase to a construction site where Cross had damaged his right arm so badly in a freak explosion it had needed to be amputated. It was soon after replaced with a mechanical arm. This did not deter him however as he just adjusted his arm for the use of crime fighting. So from then on he continued to do whatever it took to be seen as a hero by both worlds.
Personality: Cross is extremely hyperactive. Anytime there is danger or adventure to be had Cross will jump right into it without a second thought. Cross is not so bright when it comes to love and crushes as they will often go over his head (this could also be said with innuendos and sexual jokes.) It takes a lot for him to notice someone has feelings for him. Cross is perceptive of how people are feeling (whether sad or happy); it’s just love that evades him. Because of his empathetic nature, Cross is very compassionate to those weaker than him or hurting. He will drop everything he’s doing just to comfort someone in need, even if he does not know them.
Cross can be serious; if only when it comes to fighting. He's very protective of his friends and his older brother, but he does have a tendency to break things on accident out of his own clueless nature. Cross is an idealist, believing if someone is given the chance and forgiveness, they could be a good person. So, he'll fight an enemy but only to try and knock some sense into them throughout the battle. His idealism though goes a bit far, as he wishes to make a world where there is no fighting and everyone can get along happily.
Due to his idealism, Cross is also a want to be hero, or as he calls it “a hero in training.” He took major influence from many superhero comics and movies, as well as heroes from literature. He strives to be the heroic figure in a story in real life. Cross is very brave, as he’s willing to take on the dangers of crime fighting and potentially deadly scenarios if it leads to protecting others.
Cross is known to show some depressive streaks. Being one in a handful without any magical gifts or super powers, he often feels rather weak and frail compared to his brother and to those who have such capabilities. He finds himself constantly wishing to be special in some other way than a mutilated arm. This stems from his wish to be more like his brother and become more effective with combat. He has a firm belief that magic and special powers should only be used to help people. This can lead to one of his more nasty qualities, as he will often get very upset or angry with a person if he were to find out that they didn’t use said power to help others. This is directly influenced by his how his own world runs, as magic is kept within families with a magical lineage. It can lead him to judge a person very harshly before knowing all the facts of why they wouldn’t use their power to help people.
Cross is also extremely envious of those with powers. As said above, he would often scold people or becomes very harsh if they didn’t use it to help people. His reasoning behind it all is because he often feels powerless to affect circumstances and if someone who has the power to do so, they should do it. Even though he’s trained to in many areas to compensate for the lack of magic or powers he finds himself severely lacking compared to those who could just magic everything away. But this also motivates him. He wants to prove that even if someone who has no innate magical ability or power of some sort can help the world.
Cross is a lot more cunning and intelligent than one may think when they first meet him. Sure, he is naive and childish, but he is very resourceful when it comes to fighting. He uses whatever he can in the battle field. What he lacks in magical/super powers, he makes up in his use of the environment he's given. However, if he's in a place with nothing he can use (for example, a big empty stadium with benches ith no cover, or in a place with a bunch of roots), he can do little to manipulate a situation in his favor. In short, Cross prefers more stealth oriented combat to overcome his lack of powers. His intelligence also does stem outside of battle. He is capable of creating highly advanced devices that he uses to fight with. With his gadget finesse, he was capable to rig his mechanical arm with a grappling hook and claws that he can use if ever it was necessary.
Cross is also very stubborn when it comes to his beliefs. When someone points out the flaws in them he will become very defensive. When this happens he accuses those merely trying to help of being extremely pessimistic or too lazy to try and figure out a different way to approach a problem other than a hopeless realistic scenario. The reason he is so stubborn is because his beliefs are the only things he feels like he has control over. So when someone comes in trying to make him change them (in his opinion), he feels loss of that power.
Because of Cross’s want to be special in some way he takes pride in having a prosthetic arm. Even if some would consider it a handicap, Cross considers it one of his defining traits that make him special in some way, even though he’d prefer magic instead.
Abilities: Cross has no magical capability or superpower of any form. However because of this he trains himself through several forms of martial arts, acrobatics and the use of a sword. For his age group he is above average in speed and agility.
Because he’s smart enough to create gadgetry he makes a collection of tools and weapons that he can use to fight (think of Batman’s utility belt.) These can often be bombs, tasers, EMPs, smoke bombs, throwing knives, flash grenades, pepper spray, a mini blow torch, lock picks and a visor that helps him take in statistics around him.
Cross is even smart enough to outfit his mechanical arm with a bunch of tools as well. If he turns a cuff on it 90 degrees he can launch a small grappling hook stored inside the arm. If turned 180 degrees fingertip blades will extend out, he can’t use both at once though. It wears down though if it is not up kept.
Cross also has specially made armor for himself. It’s light enough to allow him to move swiftly but strong enough that it can withstand bullets. It is capable of wearing down and falling apart though if maintenance isn’t kept on it.
Cross is capable and cunning in many situations. If you were to put him in a kitchen in a minute he could create a makeshift bomb as he uses his environment to his advantage. He makes use of anything on hand as a weapon.
With one of the Bluetooth like visors that are often sold in his world, Cross has managed to rig one to do things it shouldn't be able to do. As it's capable of recoding video and sound, as well as doing a lot complicated math to allow him to gather statistics that would help to fight (like at what angle should he fire his grappling hook or something.) It is also able to examine technology (if it is not to advanced) and pick up the details in it and give Cross a layout of how they work and how to use them.
For his age, he is a capable driver, being able to do complex maneuvers while going at high speeds.
Unknown to Cross however, he is especially resilient to magic. This is because of his birth. Since his brother had taken all of the magic during their birth, Cross was given strong magical resistance. This doesn't mean he's invincible to magic but it will deal less damage to him than it would for someone who doesn't have it. So, for example, someone wanted to set his arm on fire and cause third degree burns with magic, his resistance lessens the damage to a first degree burn. But this is only if it's magic. If it's through a different means than he's going to burn like any other human.

Name: Cross Blanchard
Cross was born into one of these magical families along with his twin brother, Crown. However, Cross was a rare case in which he was born with zero magical ability. It was because his older brother had received all of the magic during their birth. Because of this, Cross was horribly neglected by his father who would be training Crown most of the time. Their mother on the other hand seemed to have up and vanished around the time they were three so all they were left with to take care of them was their father and some of the house staff. Since Cross had no magic he was left to go to normal school where Crown would be home schooled.
Since Cross had interactions with both worlds he got a sense of what both were like. The normal world to him seemed pretty average and somewhat boring. It wasn't until he saw some of the technology that Cross actually gained some interest in it. As he continued to experience the normal world noticed that there was a lot of problems that magic could help fix (like disease, crime, war, ect). Cross brought this up to his father, telling him that the magical world should do more to help the people there. His father rebuffed him, telling him the magical world did not care for the squabbles of the non magical.
With the magical world, Cross was enamored by the thoughts of using magic and all of the interesting things it could do. He felt angry towards it though at knowing that the magical world didn’t care about the entirety of the world’s problems. In doing so, Cross wanted to make it so that both the magical world and the normal world co-exist out in the open. He believed if that was possible both worlds could help each other with their problems. But because of how both worlds worked, those without power were often not taken seriously or ever seen. So Cross wanted to become a hero in both worlds so that he could be acknowledged by everyone so he could help everyone. If he could get both worlds to cooperate and exist to one another, he believed he could make a world filled with happiness.
The only flaw was Cross had no magic. So he needed another way to become a hero. It was then Cross turned to the realm of comic book super heroes and took major influence on his fighting style from them. He became thrilled at those who used gadgets, science, and all their physical capabilities. So Cross began to train, having his older brother teach him how to use a sword. In exchange Cross taught his older brother martial arts and acrobatics (which Cross had started to learn on his own for his own hero training.) He knew just using a sword, acrobatics and martial arts wouldn’t be enough. The boy soon started learning how to make a variety of tools and gadgets in order to use them to help him fight.
When Cross had finally gotten all the things he needed to start being a hero, he began his crime fighting spree. Crown, his older brother, wasn’t going to let him go out on his own and decided to come with him. They were going to try and catch a bunch of bank robbers but their first mission did not go over well. It had led to a chase to a construction site where Cross had damaged his right arm so badly in a freak explosion it had needed to be amputated. It was replaced afterwards with a mechanical arm. This did not deter him as he just adjusted his arm for the use of crime fighting. So from then on he continued to do whatever it took to be seen as a hero by both worlds.
However, Crown and Cross were left in the dark about something with the magical world. The worlds can't physically touch one another. When at times they were going to fight crime in the non magical world, Cross was actually pulling them both into it subconsciously. The only reason why Cross could pull both of them was because they were twins and shared a link between each other. Their father had kept Crown oblivious to the fact of the barriers, merely hand waving that the magical world was hidden through a very good illusion. In reality, their father was going to use them to shatter the barrier.
Their father's reasons for this was like most of the other magical families. Non magical people were lower, inferior, and needed to be controlled by magic. But because of the barriers only very skilled magic users could pass through and even than it wouldn't be enough to conquer. So their father devised a plan. If he could somehow have his wife bear twins, he could be sure that the infusion of magic was transferred to only one of the twins. This way, the other child's body would reject magic and be able to nullify it. But also be able to pull both twins back and forth between the worlds subconsciously. He wanted the twin with magic to see all the ugliness of the non-magical world, so for when the time came he could enact his plan.
When the time came for the Hierarchy's cup, if Crown's potential was strong enough to take the seat as king, Crown could gain enormous amounts of power. Also, with Cross's nullifying of magic, their father intended him to be a sacrifice and allow that power to escape from the boy's body. Once Cross was between worlds and he died, the power would be let loose. This way it would collapse the walls dividing the world so that the magical world could invade. All that was needed was for Cross to die. So their father began slipping him ideas of becoming a hero.
The only piece their father needed was to find a good reason for this invasion, which he already had. He would simply lie to Crown (believing that his son would buy this) saying that the non magical people of the other world caused his death. Knowing that Crown's love for Cross was so strong, his father would intend to use that to fuel the invasion and take control of all the non magical folks.
One night though, after one of Cross's hero sprees he came home to find a strange...something in his closet behind a board. Going to inspect he soon found the Window that would lead him into a grander adventure.
Point in canon: Uhh, he's original but I'd say still trying to establish a hero title in his world and still unaware of his magic nerfing capabilities.
Window Location: In his closet behind a board. Tots original.
Universe: Cross's world is split off into two parts. The normal, everyday world, where one gets up and gets ready for the day; and the magical world where just about anything can happen. In the magical world, magic is used inside certain families, as magic only ever appeared in those lineages. Magic users are often defined by their eye colour. It usually shows when the eyes appear to shimmer or shine.
However as time went on, there came to be less and less magical families, because they were reproducing with one another. To make sure their world didn’t die out, they began reproducing with non magical people. This proved to be even more of a problem, since the next generation’s magic would be weaker than the last; those with weaker magic could be told apart by the changing of their eye color. In theory, if this continued, magical children wouldn’t be born at all. To fix this they infused the non-magical parent with lots of magical energy and then a small infusion of the magical parent’s blood. This would ensure that when the couple consummated their marriage, the magical energies would pass into the child. This would allow their magic not to weaken any further.
But, because magic had gotten so weak down family lines, the younger generation couldn't use magic in its raw form. This caused an even bigger problem, because, as time continued their magic would vanish all together if it wasn't used. Their children’s magic could grow stronger so long as it was practiced and used enough; as magic in their world was like a muscle. But for the time being they needed to be able to use something to help them practice. They discovered, that if the potential to use magic in it’s raw form was there, these children could use weapons infused with magic. These weapons would help them draw out their hidden strength and fine tune their capabilities, until they no longer needed their ‘Tuner’ and use magic by itself.
The majority of the magical world doesn't seem to care much for the non-magical world. They prefer not to stick their nose in it. The awful truth about it is, the magical world feels they are superior to those without magic. Even if they do not interfere with the non-magical world, they would prefer to have dominion over it. But because of the barrier between both the worlds, those without sufficient skills can't pass into the non magical world.
But those born with no magic at all can pass through the barrier because of their connection to the non magical world. With these cases, however, the person does it subconsciously and can simply pass back and forth between both worlds (but only if they were born in the magical world first.) Retrospectively, how a non magical person from the non magical world can pass through is if a magic user takes them through.
Magical families often treat each other with friendly familiarity or with outright contempt. Since magical potential is an important aspect of the magical world, all families are in competition with each other. Because of this, they usually home school their children. This way when the time comes, the person's magic isn't known to anyone but the family themselves. The reason why all the families compete with one another is so they can win the 'Hierarchy's Cup.' What this is, is ascending to the highest point of power in the magical world. To become the king and queen.
The king and queen who rule the magical world are those who win the Hierarchy's cup. When the King and Queen both die, a tournament is held (the Hierarchy's cup.) Each magical family puts up one member of their household from the ages of fifteen to twenty. They than battle in a tournament to see who has the strongest magical potential. Males and females have their own separate tournaments to compete in. The winner of the male's tournament becomes the king and the winner of the female tournament becomes queen. Matches are won by either killing your opponent or having them forfeit. When the King and Queen are decided, the families of the winners are the ruling faction in the magical world. The only way to hold power in the magical world is to continually produce children with the strongest potential and win the cup. The reason why the Hierarchy's cup has not been banned yet is because they do not wish to have weak rulers.
The magical world, in terms of architecture, takes after 18th century Victorian buildings. Everything is elaborate and beautiful in their definitions. Even simple shops have luxurious designs. This is to emulate how superior the magical world feels, as everything has grandeur, where the non magical world doesn't.
The capital of the Magical world is Apollos, where the Hierarchy's cup and castle is held.
The non-magical world is what Earth would be like it's imagined to be in 30 years from now. Technology has advanced to the point that limbs can be replaced with mechanical prosthetic that function, if not better, to regular limbs. Computers can even be small enough to fit into blue tooth like objects and a tinted glass screen can be made into a visor to display information. Hover technology is available but extremely hard to get a hold of since it's so expensive.
Other than the large advances in technology, the non magical world is like that of earth in the early twenty first century on how it functions: in terms of politics, economics, law, and so on.
Abilities: Cross has no magical abilities to note of because of his birth and his older brother taking all of the magic shared between them.
Unknown to Cross however, he is especially resilient to magic. This is because of his birth. Since his brother had taken all of the magic during their birth, Cross was given a strong magical resistance.
Because he is a normal human, Cross can be injured like one. So he has trained himself to preform difficult acrobatics and has learned a variety of martial arts. A form of martial art he prefers is something similar to chi blocking in Korra. He attempts to hit pressure points in a person's body to temporarily paralyze them. He's trained in the use of martial weapons, like swords and knives and has pin point accuracy with throwing knives.
He's intelligent enough to create a variety of gadgets he uses and even outfitting his mechanical arm with different capabilities (like shoot grappling hooks.) He managed to even outfit the blue tooth like computers to gather statistics.
Cross is capable of driving vehicles with fair amount of control and coordination. Though for his age knowing how to drive is odd. It's probably from all the vehicles he's hijacked during crime fighting.
-A sword. Just a regular sword.
-Throwing knives. Normal.
-Utility belt. To keep all his gadgets and such in.
-Smoke bombs. Releases a cloud of smoke.
-Flash grenades. They explode releasing a giant flash of light.
-Bombs. They explode and cause damage.
-Mini blow torch
-A small tool kit. Used to repair his visor or arm.
-Visor. Now this requires explaining. It is a blue tooth like device that Cross has rigged to gather statistics; these would include, on a person, heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen intake, movement speed. In other cases it allows him to scan technology that is not beyond it's comprehension (as in it's not something much newer or foreign) and give Cross details on it. It even calculates angles and equations on where he would need to throw knives or launch his grappling hook. It functions as a computer basically but with a higher rate of processing and capability. It is capabile of learning more complicated forms of technology if the right programs and data is put into it. So lets say, Cross wanted to figure out how those mechs work in Korra. Since it is a foreign technology Cross would have to find the plans for them and make his visor read the details and then it would store the information. All information is displayed on a tinted glass that goes over his eyes, but can still be seen through.
-His mechanical arm. Since he lost his right arm while fighting crime, he gained this spiffy mechanical one. It functions just as a regular arm would, except metal. Plus, Cross has added some modifications to it. Twisting the cuff on the arm to 90 degrees opens a hole in his palm, which a grappling hook is stored. When he points his arm and hand up in a certain way he presses a button on the back of his hand to fire the grapple. He can use this to swing or draw him closer to something, as the cord can recoil. If the cuff is turned another 90 degrees (or just 180 degrees from the start) blades will come out of the finger tips.
-His Armor. It’s light enough to allow him to move swiftly but strong enough that it can withstand bullets. It is capable of wearing down and falling apart though if maintenance isn’t kept on it.
-Helmet. It functions the same as the visor, except as a helmet. Cross usually uses it if he can get his hands on a motorcycle.
Personality: Cross is extremely hyperactive. Anytime there is danger or adventure to be had, Cross will jump right into it without a second thought. Cross is not so bright when it comes to love and crushes, as they will often go over his head; this could also be said with innuendos and sexual jokes. It takes a lot for him to notice someone has feelings for him, which is bluntly blurting it out. Cross is perceptive of how people are feeling (whether sad or happy); it’s just love that evades him. Because of his empathetic nature, Cross is very compassionate to those weaker than him or hurting. He will drop everything he’s doing just to comfort someone in need, even if he does not know them.
Cross can be serious, if only when it comes to fighting. He's very protective of his friends and his older brother. But he does have a tendency to break things on accident out of his own clueless nature. Cross is an idealist, believing if someone is given the chance for forgiveness, they could be a good person. So, he'll fight an enemy but only to try and knock some sense into them throughout the battle. His idealism though goes a bit far, as he wishes to make a world where there is no fighting and everyone can get along happily.
Due to his idealism, Cross is also wants to be hero. He took major influence from many superhero comics and movies, as well as heroes from literature. In the dark of night a young teenager was still out and about. Sure, many could say the same thing about all teenagers. Going out, having fun, doing whatever they felt like. Well, that as partially true in this kid's case. But he wasn't out to have fun. He was out to change things. As he moved across the building tops he heard a scream from below. Turning his head quickly, he tapped the side of his head and a blue screen lit up in front of his eyes. It scanned below to pick up the elevated heart rates of four individuals. Strike that, three people moving in on one person. This didn't look good. Shooting his grappling hook, he swung down to catch a better look. Yup, these three were definitely planning on mugging that lady. Well, Cross wasn't going to be having any of that.
Leaping down in front of the woman, the boy faced the larger strangers. A frown visible on his face. "Look, I don't know what you think you're doing, but you shouldn't be mugging people. That's not gonna help anybody! So why don't we talk about this?" His voice was clear and to the point. But these guys just laughed as they moved in. Guess it looked like he would have to do it the hard way. One dived at him and Cross stepped to the side. Before the man could recover, Cross had grabbed his arm and already swung him into one of his team mates, knocking the other over in the process. The last guy standing glared, his expression becoming enraged as he lunged at Cross. Pulling a taser out from his utility belt, the boy pointed it out front and pressed the button. There was a yell and the man crumpled over.
Smiling, Cross turned to the woman placing his hands on his sides. "You're safe now ma'am! Go on! Get going. I'm sure you've got places to be," Cross happily told her. She looked confused but soon left. With these three guys out cold Cross just tied them up and called the police before leaving.
He did this stuff every night, as much as he could. Cross wanted to help people, everyone in fact. That was his goal, his dream. But even so, part of him knew it wasn't just a selfless act. He wanted recognition from others. So he did this, because without magic, he needed another way for people to see him as special.
Sitting on a roof top above he smiled ruefully. "Maybe...maybe I'm never gonna be a great hero," his words slipping sadly from his mouth. But in a moment of clarity he hit his face. This was no time to get depressed! He needed to remain positive! After all, bringing two worlds together was never easy. "Right, I can't give up now! I gotta keep at it!" .
Plans: Well in general I don't want to give him magic. Maybe if someone from FMA comes in, possibly allow him to learn alchemy (Cause technically it's science.) Other than that I don't have anything in mind.
Name: Lampion (Or just Lamp)
Sex: Male, I hope this is all right. I just don't see him having a female one for some reason. If it is a problem I will change it.
Form: Black foot ferret
Additional notes: Since this is like his soul animal, I think the further it moved from him, the more it could extend the range of Cross's magical blocking ability. But since it'll hurt a lot if they move away from each other I doubt this will be used much.
Why this form: I took a quiz just to see what it would turn out to be. I had a ferret in mind and I got one. They described it as "Your daemon is curious, sly, cunning, agile, playful, adventurous, intelligent, witty and affectionate. Your daemon serves as your friend and partner in crime. The ferret manipulates situations to his or her advantage but can be very courageous when the need arises." It almost reflects Cross's personality perfectly, so why not?
For one his body negates 2/3's of magic. But, what does that mean. Lets begin.
Magic in General
Magic that makes contact with Cross will always suffer a 2/3 dampening. This means both harmful and beneficial magic. So for example a fire spell meant to cause third degree burns will only cause first degree burns. A healing spell meant to fully heal a wound will only help it scab over.
Cross neutralizes magic that currently effects his personal space. If it comes too close to him it becomes much weaker. However, if utilized and he actually finds out about his ability, he can extend the range, if only by covering weapons in his blood and getting it on others.
With other people
If Cross is holding onto someone, they are effectively inside his personal range. Therefore, their magic becomes dampened so long as Cross holds onto them.
Magic with wide range effects
If magic effects a wide area, Cross neutralizes magic inside his area. So for example, lets say Homura from Madoka uses her time stop ability. Like usual time is stopped for everyone, except for Cross. When time would be stopped he would actually be seeing everyone moving extremely slow, except for Homura who is just incredibly fast from his perception.
Now, what happens if someone with magic has strength enhanced by it?
Well, several things.
One, if they aren't making contact with Cross they will retain most of their strength. If they went to punch him, the impact of the punch is lessened by 2/3's. If they were to throw something at him though like a knife, the force the knife is thrown at remains the same since it has left the magic user's possession. If the knife is created from magic however, the structure of it becomes weaker when it makes contact with Cross, so said knife might actually just shatter on contact or leave a very shallow wound.
Who does this effect?
People who use magic. However, you may opt out of encounters that would interfere with your characters' magic.
